Local Post Offices unaffected by CWU Strike Action

Hitchin Post Office and other post offices locally are open for business as usual during the strike by CWU Post Office workers.

The PO strike is by our colleagues in the Communications Workers Union (CWU) that work in ‘Crown’ offices; larger branches in towns and cities.

Commencing Monday 19th December and including Saturday Christmas Eve, thousands of Post Office workers will be walking out on strike from workplaces across the country, in response to continuing attacks by company chiefs on their job security and pensions, and in defence of the Crown Office network.

CWU general secretary Dave Ward said: “We want a Post Office that works for everyone, for communities, for small and medium-sized businesses, and for the people who serve them – our hard working members, but the people running the Post Office have no serious plan other than further closures and managed decline and we won’t accept that.”

The strike action called by CWU does not involve Royal Mail employees. Royal Mail has informed Post Office that it has robust contingency plans in place and expects that there will be little effect on the services it provides.
