Supporting Hitchin Christian Centre

We were delighted to be able to once again support the Hitchin Christian Centre with this fundraising event - we donated old Pallet Boards and Cardboard Boxes.

They emailed us this....

'Thank you so much for supporting us in running our sleep out last Friday night. We’ve raised nearly £1000 towards our house-building trip which is amazing and would not have been possible without you support.

See above a photo of the ‘dwelling’ the group made and slept overnight in (although sleep wasn’t great).

The reasons behind this 'Sleep Out' were....

From 3rd to 13th August 2018, a group of twenty young people and leaders from the local community will be travelling to Moldova (the poorest nation in Europe) to build a house for a family in poverty.

This trip is being organised by Hitchin Christian Centre (HCC), and is the seventh house-building trip that HCC has organised since 2010. Previous trips have resulted in young people building houses in Tijuana, Mexico and Botleng Township, South Africa.  This is the first house-building experience in Moldova.

The trip will also include other young people (and leaders) from the UK, and also native Moldova young people. It takes 5 days to build the basic house for a family with a large group of young people participating, ably led by experienced house-builders.

As well as helping those in great need, the trip serves as an excellent cross-cultural experience, builds confidence, develops a range of practical skills, cultivate team-building, and grows competency in problem solving and handling stress and challenges.

The total cost of this trip is just under £17,000 which covers transport (flights), basic food and accommodation, and the house-building materials and gifts for the family being served.

Each young person is developing their own fundraising plan and we are also running a number of corporate fundraising events.

Congratulations to all who braved the 'Sleep Out' and all the best with your future fundraising.
